City walks

Bring history to life with these city walks for students along famous historical places in The Hague.

Hofvijver walk

What once started as a castle on a dune lake, grew into the center of power on the Hofvijver. Now that the Binnenhof is being renovated, we take the students for a walk along this Hofvijver. Why did Johan van Oldenbarnevelt get a statue here? And what exactly does the Senate do? During this walk, the students discover everything about the history of the Binnenhof using photos of the Binnenhof and statues and buildings around the Hofvijver.

The Hague & Slavery

For many, the trading city of Amsterdam or the port city of Middelburg come to mind when thinking about the Dutch slavery past. But The Hague has played a central role in the establishment, maintenance and abolition of slavery since the 17th century. Traces of this history are still visible in the streets of The Hague. Various locations still remind us of the slavery past and are part of this city walk.
